The crime drama ‘Sacred Games’ is planned as a Hindi- and English-language series for the streaming video giant worldwide.

Netflix is banking on some Bollywood star power for its first Indian original series Sacred Games which will be toplined by actor Saif Ali Khan.
Khan’s upcoming projects include the Bollywood remake of Jon Favreau’s Chef which is slated for release later this year.

Following its India launch last year, the streaming giant announced Sacred Games as its foray into Indian content production. While a release date is not yet given, Sacred Games is based on a best-selling novel by Vikram Chandra and will be a bilingual series in Hindi and English. When the project was first announced, a plot description stated that the Mumbai-set drama “delves into the city’s intricate web of organized crime, corruption, politics and espionage that lie beneath India’s economic renaissance.”

The series is a co-production with Phantom Films whose founders include acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap, director Vikramaditya Motwane and producer Madhu Mantena. Netflix's partnership with Phantom builds upon its earlier relationship with Kashyap, whose 2012 two-part epic Gangs of Wasseypur was streamed as an eight-part series on the video giant's U.S service in 2015.

Netflix made the Khan announcement via a Twitter post. In a career spanning over two decades Khan, 46, has delivered such hits as 2001’s Dil Chahta Hai and starred in the successful Race action franchise. He has also produced titles via his Illimunati banner including 2012 romantic caper Cocktail in which he also starred along with top actress Deepika Padukone (xXx: Return of Xander Cage).

In terms of other Indian content, Netflix recently premiered its first Indian comedy special by Vir Das which will be followed by another special by female comedian Aditi Mittal premiering on July 18.

Not only Dileep, many celebrities named in sexual assault and harassment cases

Dileep had been arrested on Monday, after 13-hour long interrogation session in the Malayam actress abduction case.

Mumbai: Malayalam actor Dileep's arrest in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of an actress lays bare the seamy underbelly of a glamour industry of starry haves and many have nots caught in tinsel traps.

But Dileep is not the only one. From Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar to actor Shiney Ahuja, many celebrities have been named in similar cases alleging sexual harassment and assault. Some have been proved and others disproved.

Though few talk about the casting couch syndrome, the dark reality behind the glittering lights of showbiz, actors like Ranveer Singh and Ayushmann Khurrana have opened up about their experiences.

A sting operation in 2005 saw Shakti Kapoor and Aman Verma asking an undercover reporter sexual favours in exchange for a career.

The film industry's diary of charges of sexual abuse is long.

In January this year, a case was filed against "Chennai Express" producer Karim Morani after a 25-year-old woman alleged he had raped her on multiple occasions in Mumbai and had promised to marry her.

Shiney Ahuja was on his way to becoming the next big thing in Bollywood with his brooding turn in films such as "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and "Gangster" but it all went south when his maid accused him of rape in 2009. She later retracted her charge but the trial court judge refused to accept it and convicted Ahuja based on circumstantial evidence.

A fast track court sentenced Ahuja to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in 2011. His appeal is pending in the Bombay High Court.

Meet Athiya Shetty, Bollywood’s Glamour Girl

Bollywood actresses are a notoriously stylish bunch. In the States, famous beauties such as Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai are becoming fixtures on the red carpet in Hollywood, and the new generation of talent is every bit as fashionable. At just 24, Athiya Shetty has made a name for herself with roles in Hindi films and an engaging presence on social media. When she isn’t starring in action dramas or musical comedies, Shetty is sharing her distinctive personal style with fans on Instagram. Switching from sumptuous embroidered saris one day to flirty minidresses from Coach the next, Shetty’s wardrobe merges traditional pieces with fresh-from-the-runway finds.

A second generation actor—her father is ’90s Bollywood action star, Sunil—Shetty stepped into the family business with her role in 2015’s romantic drama Hero. She garnered attention for her performance and the elegant style she displayed while on the film’s press tour and was instantly elevated to It-girl status. Signing a beauty contract with Maybelline and landing a cover of Indian Vogue (dressed in Rodarte, no less) in quick succession, Shetty has emerged as a fashion star. And she’s just as adept at generating buzz with her casual off-duty style as she is on the red carpet.

Nowhere has that been more evident than during her press tour for Mubarakan. With photo calls, talk show appearances, and awards shows to attend, Shetty has brought her A-game. Working with stylist Ami Patel, she’s focused on finding looks with wow factor while showcasing Indian design talent. For a trip to the Femina Women Awards last week, it was flowing Bibhu Mohapatra in a vibrant shade of purple, while a guest spot on dance competition Nach Baliye meant a cocktail dress from Payal Khandwala covered in a geometric pattern. Even the celebrations for costar Arjun Kapoor’s birthday called for a memorable outfit. Shetty’s choice? An upcycled striped cardigan from sustainable brand, Doodlage. With Mubarakan having just opened in theaters this past weekend, the actress is getting a well-deserved breather from promotion, but her impressive style is here to stay.
